Connection with globalization
According to Steger, ‘’political globalization refers to the intensification and expansion of political interrelations across the globe. These processes raise an important set of political issues pertaining to the principle of state sovereignty, the growing impact of intergovernmental organizations, and the future prospects for regional and global governance.’’ (Steger, 2003)
Globalization didn’t contribute to the Darfur crisis as it could have. For a long time now, there has been an emphasis on global inequality, on genocides and on internal struggles in a country as a consequence of globalization. In 1948, the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which says that ‘‘all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights’’. (United Nations, 1789) This declaration clearly states that all human have rights and freedom. This was advancement and progression due to globalization. Worlds where all people are born equal and are free. This global awareness of human rights violation can be explained by the situation in Darfur.
In order to help the situation in Darfur, the U.N Security Council adopted Resolution 1556 demanding that the ‘’Government of the Sudan disarm the Janjaweed militias, apprehend and bring to justice its leaders and their associates who had incited and carried out violations of human rights and international humanitarian law, as well as other atrocities in the country’s Darfur region.’’ (Security Council, 2004) This declaration was destined for international countries and governments to bring support to the victims of Sudan and to help the Darfur crisis. However, two significant countries, China and Pakistan, desisted from this vote because of the repercussions that it would have on their economy and their whole country in general, brought by globalization of course.

Indeed, China is the second largest oil consumer and is then very dependent on Sudan for approximately 7,5% of its oil import. (Luft, par.1, 2004) With these two countries desisting to vote for this Resolution, an unethical decision speaks for itself. Thousands of people are dying due to this crisis and because China and Pakistan have such links with Sudan they have to, in a certain way, agree with the Sudanese government. The genocide in Sudan is guaranteed to persevere because important countries such as Pakistan and China remain silent. Furthermore, globalization has affected peacekeepers functions, transnational corporations and humanitarian agencies and organizations. This is what particularly affected the crisis in Darfur. The Khartoum government (Arabs) continues to exercise massive and growing influence in the country due to the factors of globalization. The government doesn’t have control over the whole territory, which creates rebellions and massacres.
Rules against genocides must be reinforced in the entire world during this period of globalization. Due to the process of globalization, there needs to be more sanctions of human’s catastrophes. Humans shouldn’t suffer from others. Globalists have always escaped morality in a certain way. Globalization's repeatedly tendencies encourage these types of disturbing techniques, these violence and massacres. If we look at similar violence of the modern time such as the genocide of the Amerindian, Aborigines of Australia by Europeans, Jews by the Nazis, the Bosnian genocide, the Cambodian genocides, the Darfur genocide etc., (Devlin, May 2003) it is clear that the International Law doesn’t avoid and protect victims of such globalization.
